Components of Sericulture

In our previous post V came across what is sericulture. History behind sericulture and a Chinese story behind silk. Today in this post we are going in detail with sericulture. Let’s start by seeing the main five components of sericulture.

There are five main components in sericulture namely.

Cultivation of Mulberry.

Silk worms rearing.

Production of cocoons.

Production of eggs.

Reeling.

The cultivation of Mulberry plants for the production of quality leaves is called Moriculture.

Mulberry may be grown both in temperate tropical and subtropical regions. In temperate regions Mulberry is grown as trees and details 2 or 3 crops in a year. In tropical regions it is grown as Bush and it yields 5 to 6 crops in a year . Quality of Mulberry leaves have an immediate effect upon the health of silkworms and quality of cocoons.

Mulberry can be grown in tropical and subtropical climate and leaning red soil with a neutral PH.
