Plants and animals exhibit considerable diversity at the cellular level .During the Evolution of organisms, diversity has occurred in the structure and functions of the cells for example Algae are generally aquatic and the lower group of Algae are unicellular filamentous or colonial in their forms. The higher algae like kelp and sargassum are multicellular. plants are deep rooted and widely branched .They have longer life span and show diversity in reproduction.

Let us now study the classification of higher plants and animals.Major groups of organisms come under the five kingdoms namely Kingdom Monera which have bacteria and blue green algae.
Unicellular algae and protozoa come under Kingdom Protista .
fungi comes under Kingdom Mycota .
Approximate number of species so far identified is about one more than 15 lakhs. According to modern classification plants and animals are classified into five major kingdoms.
Additional Information
Metaphyta[Plantae] has Non Vascular Plants and Vascular Plants.Multicellular Algae namely Red algae, Brown Algae and Green algae and bryophytes which includes vascular plants like pteridophytes gymnosperms and angiosperms.
[ Some Species of algae are preserved and used in the preperation of Cattle feed.]
for the Metazoa which is also known as Kingdom animalia contains majorly multicellular animals Invertebrates and vertebrates. Invertebrates have Porifera ,Coelenterata,Platyhelminthes Aschelmonthes, Annelida, Arthropoda, Mollusca ,Echinodermata whereas Chordata contains Pisces, Amphibia, Reptilia, Aves and Mammalia .
