1.0 Advent of Europeans to India

Since times immemorial india had trade links with Europe and Asian Countries like China, Java and Sumatra. There was Great Demand for Indian Products like Cotton Textails, Silk, Pearls, Diamonds, Sandlewood, and Spices like Pepper and Cardamom, Cloves and Cinnamon.

In 1455 AD, the Ottoman turks Occupied Constantinopal , This resulted in two important Developments Firstly, It Closed the land route between the East and the West, which made it Necessary to explore new sea routes to India.

Horses ,Wines , Coral and Mercury were brought into India. This Trade with Europe was carried on both by Land and sea routes. Both the routes passed through the City of Constantinopal [ Modren Istambul ] . The Goods also reached Constantinopal by sea routes through the Arabian Sea and the Red Sea.

Secondly, As a result of the Renaissance there was expansion in the Knowledge of Geography and Navigation among the Europeans.This lead to the Invention of Navigational devices such as a Marimer’s Compass and the Astrolobe which Equipped the Sailors to Negotiate the turbuancy voyages.

Astrolobe is an instrument used at that time, for measuring the altitude of the sun, stars and other heavily bodies.This as well as the Compass and the Accurate Geographical maps provide incentives to the Sailors to undertake long sea voyages.

Many European Kings and queens encourage the Adventurous navigators to discover new sea routes to INDIA.
