Once, in a quiet village, there lived an old teacher named Mr. Ravi. He was kind and wise, and many children came to him to learn. One day, he brought an empty glass jar to class.

He also brought some big stones, small pebbles, and a bag of sand. The children looked at him, confused. Mr. Ravi smiled and asked, “What do you think I’m going to do?”

He picked up the big stones and placed them one by one into the jar. Soon, the jar was full. “Is the jar full now?” he asked. “Yes!” the children replied.

Then, Mr. Ravi picked up the pebbles and poured them into the jar. The pebbles fell between the spaces of the big stones. He shook the jar gently, and more pebbles fit in. “Is the jar full now?” he asked again. “Maybe not?” one child said.

Mr. Ravi smiled. He picked up the bag of sand and poured it into the jar. The sand filled all the tiny spaces between the stones and pebbles.

“Now it’s full,” he said.

The children laughed. But then Mr. Ravi asked, “What is the lesson?” A girl raised her hand. “No matter how full your life is, there’s always room for more?” Mr. Ravi shook his head gently. “That’s not quite it.”

He said, “The big stones are the most important things in life — your family, your health, your dreams. The pebbles are your job, your school, your home. The sand is all the small things — like watching TV, playing games, or worrying about small problems.”

“If I had put the sand in first,” he continued, “there would be no room for the big stones.” The class was silent. They understood.

“Always take care of the big things first,” Mr. Ravi said, “and the rest will fit.”

Moral: Focus on what truly matters in life. Don’t fill your days with small things and forget the important ones.
